“Thank you, Black Jaguar Foundation, for permitting me to participate in this magnificent project.”

YANN ARTHUS-BERTRAND

Film director & Environmentalist

About me

Yann Arthus-Bertrand is a world renowned French photographer, film director and environmentalist. In 1994, he started a thorough study of the state of the earth, sponsored by UNESCO. The book on this project, ‘Earth from Above’ (or: ‘La Terre vue du ciel’) sold over three million copies and was translated into 24 languages.

In 2000, his free ‘Earth from Above’ exhibit was set up on numerous big posters along the gates of the Jardins du Luxembourg in Paris. It then traveled across the world to 110 cities from Lyon toa Montréal and was visited by 120 million people.

Arthus-Bertrand’s documentary ‘HOME’ has been one of the inspirational sources for the BJF and has been viewed 600 million times worldwide since its release in 2009. In that year, he was officially designated as Goodwill Ambassador to the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and received the Earth Champion award for his commitment to the environment and his work on public environmental awareness.

How I relate to the BJF

The beautiful, inspiring and powerful documentary ‘HOME’ and its message that ‘we all have the power to change’, has inspired the Black Jaguar Foundation to where it stands today: contributing to restoring the balance between nature and mankind.

Yann and his team at the Goodplanet Foundation have embraced the initiative of the BJF from the start. He was delighted to sponsor the very first of the 600 windows of our campaign and was the first to record a video testimonial in support of the BJF.

“We are destroying the balance the earth created a billion years ago. In the past 50 years, we caused more damage to our planet than in all previous 200,000 years of mankind’s existence. Sure, life is good now, but something is bound to happen. We don’t realize the excessive impact we have on the earth. Overconsumption exhausts our resources. Change can only happen if we’re all aware of the problem. We know solutions exist. It is too late for pessimism. We all have the power to change. What are we waiting for?”
